Prevention of Cardiovascular Risks in Drivers
Drivers, especially those with extensive experience, are at increased risk of developing hypertension. Physical inactivity, irregular schedules, stress, and dietary habits create a persistent predisposition to cardiovascular disease. Standard pre-trip medical examinations document a driver’s condition at the time of admission to the trip, but do not address chronic high blood pressure.
While analyzing data from corporate clients, Medbank specialists identified a consistent pattern: a significant proportion of drivers formally licensed to work exhibit borderline or clinically elevated blood pressure readings at rest. This poses a direct safety risk and requires a systemic solution rather than ad hoc symptom suppression.
The project’s goal is to develop and implement an effective standard for working with at-risk drivers, allowing for the stabilization of blood pressure and improvement of metabolic parameters through behavioral changes, without the use of medication at the initial stage.
Our project is implemented on the principles of preventive medicine using digital tools of the Medbank platform and includes the following stages:
01
Identification of risk groups
In-depth data analysis was conducted to identify drivers with persistently elevated blood pressure. Situational spikes caused by fatigue or temporary stress were excluded from the sample, allowing for a focus on systemic issues.
02
Regular monitoring
For the selected group, dynamic monitoring of cardiovascular system parameters was organized to track the condition in the long term.
03
In-depth diagnostics
A comprehensive examination was conducted with the participation of therapists to identify the causes of hypertension. Physical parameters, lifestyle, diet, physical activity level, and behavioral factors were analyzed.
04
Individual recommendations from a network of Medical and Preventive Institutions (MPI)
Personalized lifestyle modification plans were developed for each participant, taking into account their profession, age, and current health status. Recommendations covered nutrition, physical activity, weight management, and reducing unhealthy habits.

Drivers are a challenging audience for traditional medicine, often displaying mistrust and resistance. A pool of specially trained therapists has been formed to work with them. These therapists are skilled in techniques for establishing trust and motivational counseling, which helps them accept their recommendations.
The implementation of the program has proven to be highly effective.
Results and key indicators
Risk mitigation
The risk of developing hypertension in the target group was reduced by 30%. This result was achieved solely through lifestyle modifications, without the use of medications.
Engagement
A 100% level of driver compliance with recommendations after consultations with therapists was achieved.
Clinical efficacy
All participants who followed the recommendations showed a sustained improvement in blood pressure and heart rate.
Reducing the risk group
The number of drivers with borderline and high blood pressure levels has decreased by a third.
The completed project demonstrated the effectiveness of shifting corporate healthcare from formal checkups to real employee health management. For the transportation industry, where driver health is directly linked to transportation safety, such programs are becoming not just a tool for employee care but also an important element of risk management.
